I'm just curious. My Betta girls have been put together and nipped badly about two weeks ago (amounting to moderate damage ie not like lucky missing his tail but splits and chunks). Two of them are almost healed. Two are getting there, and they were worse off but not by much.

I'm just curious. Do you think its down to water quality, quality of life, genetics or what?
MY bet is water/life quality.

Cheers, Xanthia :D

Water quality, and quality of life is my vote. When my fish are sick I change their water out like alomost every day, and put more salt in than I usually would. They heal up so quick. I donno if you rememeber my female betta that lost almost all of her fins due to a jumping accident (into Aspen bedding). She regained her fins in a week and a half with my methods! She looks great!

That's great! I have some sea salt, is that OK for aquarium use?
I would like them to heal up soon as I was waiting for them to get healed up before I posted their pics for all to admire ;)

Factors that affect fin regrowth tend to be stuff like water quality, water additives (like salt, Blackwater Extract, colloidal silver, whatever, but not necessarily medicines), some medicines, high-quality food, the Betta's overall health and state of mind, genetics. I'm probably missing something, but it's not just one or two factors...it's the whole package. A happy Betta is going to heal faster than a depressed Betta. A Betta in clean water is going to heal faster than a Betta in not-so-clean water. Some Bettas will genetically be more inclined to heal faster than others, same as some people are genetically inclined to heal faster than others.

Possibly. I'd imagine it speeds up the metabolism though. I need to take a look at Vespasians fins later, I got him last week and hes got about 2 rays nipped off. When I move him I'll add a bit of salt.

Yeah, I think temperature increase is useful. Speeds up metabolism and overall body function.

Some of mine heal really fast, and others don't heal at all
Yura is a tail-biter who heals completely within a week or two after he eats his tail, Mini girl's fins healed within 4 days after I put her with Lil to breed, but Altarib has a piece of tail that was missing when I got him and it has never healed completely :dunno:
