Someone is trying to rehome a gibbiceps, says it's 6 months old and only 2.5inches long. Sounds very small to me for a gibby unless it's badly stunted. Even my baby BN grew faster than that!
Here's a link to a photo of it:

Could owner be mistaken/was missold the wrong fish? I'd gladly offer the poor fish a home as long as it won't grow into a tankbuster.

Would a badly stunted plec(if it really is a gibby) ever grow huge if well fed and kept in a larger tank? I already have huge L001 and dwarf common plec (9years old and only 8in)so no room for any more 12in+ MONSTERS

I;m sure like most fish they have different growth rates that may depend on water quality food etc.
I;m sure that it will soon grow quickly in to what its supposed to if fed correctly etc

Can anyone tell from the photo in the link whether it is definitely a gibbiceps or some other plec? This fish needs rehoming urgently and I'm willing to adopt it if it's a small-medium species but sadly have no room for a 2ft monster.

doesnt look like the gibbi sailfin i used to have. looks like a boggo BN plec to me.

this was my small gibbi sailfin

moochy is correct the fish in the gumtree ad is a common bristlenose and the growth rate is pretty spot on for age.

Just to give a guide on the gibbi side, average is and usually around 8-11 inches within the first 12 months given the right conditions, but like simonas has mentioned, growth will differ with different/better feeding and tank maintenance regimes.

Right if it's a BN I can have it. Thought it was far too small for a gibbi that age :hey:
Thanks guys. I'll let yu know how he gets on when I get him

Sadly no. While I was waiting for forum replies someone else got him as owner was keen to get rid of it ASAP. Hope he went to a good home. On the bright side, I got an upside down catfish and glass cat free yesterday -owner lives nearby and wanted them to go to a serious fishkeeper as he is emigrating this weekend. He also gave me a free 4ft tank and stand, old but useable,as he couldn't be bothered selling on Ebay
