at first, the only way i heard people say it was bay-tah. so thats the way i say it. i've only heard one person say bet-ah....some old guy that we know...

I think that bet-ah is correct, but I also believe it has a lot to do with deomgraphics. I say this because I've lived in Wyoming for 19 years and I've only heard bet-ah once in my life and it was a woman who said, "I want one of those fish for a little bowl, what is it, Bet-ah?" So, personally if I tell someone around here that I keep bet-ahs they'd have no idea what I was talking about. If I say bay-tuh then they know immediately.

Your supposed to say Bet-uh but when I say that people look at me like I'm retarded and saying it wrong. I asked for bet-uh max at the petsmart last night and she showed me goldfish bowls . So I just say bay-tuh because that's how majority of people say it.

Glad this got brought up! I had always heard Bay-tah, so that is how I started saying it when I got my first one. Now, I feel that bet-uh is really the 'correct' way, so I try to make myself say it that way.

I usually catch myself as I start to say it wrong and I stumble over it and sound like I don't know what they are called! lol

Its pronounced "Bet a" not Beeeyyytaaaa or Buttyaaaa or Betty!

I hate it when people dont care for them. I dont care the way it is pronounced. They can call them chickens for all I care as long as they feed them properly and make sure they house them properly and do the needed water changes.

Ok so most of you say it betta as in slang for better? Like BET-a (like betting on a horse race)

I say Bay-ta.. sounds better and appropriate to me. Although I wouldn't look down on anyone for the way they spell it. Doesn't matter to me cause I'd know what you were talking about. Just like the spelling. Its Betta, but a LOT of people spell it Beta.
