Well as I just recently lost a dog to unknown health issues and was suffering before he passed on, I totally agree with euthanasia. I think that NO ANIMAL should have to *suffer* because their owner doesn't believe in euthanasia.... JMO

I too believe strongly in it if it's much more humane to put the animal to rest rather than prolong suffering. I can't even watch it on the tv tho, I cry so hard and sob I make myself ill. It tears my heart apart into tiny pieces, but yes I do believe in it. :-(

I think it should be done for the animals welfare, not the owners. I have heard of people putting their cats down because they did not want them anymore. :sly:

I think also, that in most cases it should be done by a qualified person to ensure that it is done properly.

Although, I think that human euthenasia should be legal too in some cases.

I believe in it. My cat just had cancer, she wouldn't eat or drink and we had to take her into the vet to be injected with fluids to keep her from getting dehydrated. We had 2 choices: chemo or euthanasia. We didn't have the money for chemo and even if we did it probably would have meant much more suffering for her. She had lost lots of weight and spent the whole day sleeping. We had her euthanised this Saturday. I think I've only had 1 other animal euthanised, a dog when I was really little.

Under the right circumstances it is necissary. :(

Most times it is a very hard thing to do. Animals become part of your family and you love them dearly.
A dear friend just had her GreyHound PTS because of cancer. She didnt want to do it- but she danged well had to. The dog would have suffered horribly had she not.

If I had to PTS any of my babies- I'd cry and probably go into a deep depression. It's my nature, .

For anyone that has had to "do the deed". Don't beat yourself up over it. More than likely your dog/cat-whatever, knew you loved them. Remember the rainbow bridge guys.

i volunteer at the humane society near me and when theres an animal thats suffering its just better to euthanize ratherthen watching them suffer...so i think in the right circumstances its good

Gotta be cruel to be kind sometimes, personally I think if done in the right way and if it's absolutely needed then it's the most humane thing you can do for a loved pet when they're in pain. I do not however think it is justifiable to do it in a painful or prolonged way and absolutely, positively think it's disgusting the way some people practice barbaric acts such as drowning unwanted kittens and the like. If I knew of anyone doing that kinda stuff, I'd give em a taste of euthanasia myself...

I completely agree with euthanasia if there is a real, valid reason, such as no chance of near complete recovery. Not just "oh, my cat is clawing up my house" and then killing it.

My beautiful dog Bess was put to sleep last year. She was a 13 year old LurcherX and she had a stroke... she was completely different - there was no chance of a complete recovery and it was like she wasnt there any more. We told ourselves that if we hadnt rescued her as a 5 week old pup then she would probably have died - she had 13 happy years with us and gave us so much joy. I beleive we made the right choice to put her to sleep rather than let my lovely dog suffer. It was very hard - we had her since I was 4.

I'm totally for it when neccessary. I had a cat with severe diabetes. He had to be injected twice a day, couldn't control when he went potty and didn't want to be around anymore. He was only 3 years old. I miss him so much. :-(

I feel the same way about humans.

I agree with it under the right circumstances.

We had a dog named Snuggles that was our baby, our first pup. Snuggles was part of the family, and we called her a little furry human. She had kidney failure and would not eat anything or do anything, it was hard to watch her suffer. I had to make the decision to put her to sleep and it was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I look back now and know I did the right thing. Let her be peaceful rather than to suffer anymore.

I don't agree with people deciding they don't want an animal and then deciding to euthanize it. That's not how it should work, even though it does happen. Maybe there would be less euthanization of animals if people would get their pets spayed or neutered.

I work in a vet clinic and I totally agree with Euthanasia under the right circumstances. It is a quick and painless procedure and is the best last act of love you can give a terminally ill animal.

I also feel the same way as all of you that it is a good thing in the right circumstances. At our local shelter, a woman brought in a 13year old apricot poodle that she wanted put to sleep because she just got new furniture and the dog's coloring clashed. The shelter took her and adopted her out, but isn't that horrible?! After 13 years?! Makes me sick
