Hey ;;
Please help me with learning how to care for crabs
i have just bought 2 adviice would be much appreciated :good:

well you are supposed to do research before you buy an animal. anyway, what species are they?
thanks
theyre red crabs i have researched a bit but i have just found 1 crab dead :unsure:

Well, you should only have one crab anyway unless you have an enormous tank as they are seriously territorial. He will want to be out of the water and bask under the light for a bit every day and will climb up absolutely anything he can find. Also you need to be very careful mine regularly escaped to sit on top of the tank....I even duct taped all the gaps but one day (after 2 years) he found a tiny tear and that was it gone, never did find him...so watch out. Try feeding Nutrafin Max sinking complete food tablets and cucumber, they were always popular. Also every now and then (depending how much he eats) he will shed his shell - it'll look like he died but he will be hiding under a rock to let his new shell harden. They aren't great community tank mates so shouldn't be with bottom feeders or big fish that will investigate him as he will nip them. Hope that helps a bit.....

ok red crabs are easy to care for, they need brackish water of about 1.004. the water neednt be deeper than a few inches, what size is the tank. for red crabs 1 crab per 5g is the max. oh and yes they do need somewhere to haul themselves out of. if they dont they will die. they eat anything, pellets, chopped prawns, deshelled peas, and bloodworms. they can be handled but only do it if neccesery (sp?) its stressfull and you could accidentally damage them. they need some form of cave aswell.

if you need anymore help pm me.

cheers
