I have an Aqua one tank (Aquagrande 120) 4' tank. Its the one with the overhead filter.

I want to add a second filter, but i dont want an internal one as they look ugly! So i want a canister one.

but how can i add the canister filter inlet and outlet tubes, so it looks neat? Has anyone done this?
Heres the tank

Thanks

i dont have the tank myself but i can imagine is it just a case of drilling holes int eh casing at the back to fit the pipes through?

nah cant do that, there is a filter that sits on top of the tank, so you would have to drill through the filter!

I would assume that the filter is issolated and isn't running throughout the whole top...It seems a real fault with aqua one tanks with inbuilt filters

I am looking at a Aquaone as well, and the girl at the LFS said it would need a canister filter to go with the built in, but I couldnt work out where it would go.

Could you add a internal???

They are good tanks, and ive never seen a tank which looks as good at them, just the overhead filter does make it hard sometimes.

There is a 1.5" gap between the light unit and filter, so maybe the tubes can go in there.

as for internal... i just dont like the look of them. I think the less 'un-natural' things (heaters, thermometres, filters etc) in the tank the better

I have an AquaOne 620 - I'm not sure if it has exactly the same lid setup as yours does. I have recently added an Aqua CF1000 external pump to mine.

I will take some pics tonight for you if you like, & then you can see how I did it. It does require a bit of drilling in the back of the case, but it doesn't affect anything.

I have an aqua one 850 with a twin filter compartment in the canopy. I have modified the media content and it all works very well and don't feel the need to do as you intend but if I were to add an external I would use the chamber that houses the water return shoot to drill into....surely there's room there but yours may be diff :dunno: erent

cant you just use elbow joints and piping. i have the aquastyle 620 and ive got the tubes from my skimmer pump going through the already built in holes. if your handy drill the bottom of the hood filter and pop i nthere

Hi there, Ive got an aqua one 980 and a 620. Im really happy with the filtration in the 620, im not sure why you would need a second filter? The aquaone tanks have a very high filtration rate, and because its trickle type there is more than enough bio-filtration too. That said, I have replaced the filter in the 980 because it was SO NOISY, all that splashing. I swear the dog had to walk around with her legs crossed all the time coz it made her want to go toilet....

So I put a canister filter on instead and Retrofitted some extra lighting into the old filter. But I do know what those aqua one filters look like, mine has holes in it for cords to go through and such... im thinking you might be able to find a way to get the hoses for a canister filter through there? In mine the section of the filter above where the powerhead sits is dry, so you could drill some holes in that part of the filter maybe? Then either have your intake and outlet both on that side of the tank or run the outlet tubing inside the tank to where you want the outflow??

Hope some of that rambling helped!

Put a square of coarse foam in the chamber over where the water falls down through the return shoot to stop the venturi action and thus all is quiet! :good:

Unfortunatly that didnt help. They seem to have made it so the water really does trickle down, and it splashes its way right through the filter beds as well. Also the power head vibrated and the vibrations traveled right down to the cabinet which acted to resonate the entire affair... it was just ridiculous
