How Do Uv Filters Work

Hi all, i purchased a uv filter off aberdeen aquariast and have one small (big) problem. I cant seem to get any water flow through it. Does this filter just attach on to the end of another filter for power or should it produce its own flow of water?

My uv filter is a vectron 8w (first generation one) It seems to be turning on as the uv lights turn on, but thats about it!

Sounds like it needs an external pump source.Either plumb it in to an existing external feed/return pipe or put an internal pump/power head in the tank to pump water up to it and mount it above the water level so gravity returns the water back to the tank.

Think i am going to plumb it into my eheim ecco filter. Only problem is that the cable is not big enough. I might need to think of some igenious way of doing this.
