I always use Interpet Anti Whitespot treatment and it works very well.
Is totally safe and the twice i've had whitespot it cleared it up within a few days.
Only down side is it colours your water blue for a while (but they all do that I believe)
I believe people also say if you increase the temp of the tank and add salt that works but I've never done that as I just use the chemicals and it always works

Jim is right. Interpet no. 6 is the one widely used in the UK. It is suggested to raise the temperature of the tank to 82 degrees as this speeds up the life cycle of the parasite so it will be killed quicker in theory. I tried doing this recently on an horrendous outrbreak in my 210 litre tank and my BN plecs could not stand the temp so had to lower to 80

Salt is a good thing to add as parasites hate salt, but only do this if your sister does not have any scaless fish as in loaches, ottos or plecs. If this is the case then the bettas could be given salt baths instead as an addition to the whitespot meds.

She could separate the bettas into a hospital tank and treat with meds and salt them there, but the main tank would still need medicating as the parasite will be in there and its very contagious

My tank took 4 weeks to be rid of this parasite so keep treating as per instructions every 4 days and do a 25% water change before adding the next dose and do it twice more even after the last spots are gone.

Best of luck to your sister and her bettas :)
