I was at a pond beside my house searching through some plants to find some to put in a tank I have when I came across a little snail about 1cm wide, sitting on a plant just barely under water..... I think i'll keep him for a tank if it is aquatic because he has a nice pale gree hue to his shell.... but is there any way to know for sure?

not being funny here, but the best way to tell if a snail is aquatic or not is if it lives under water, if you see many of the same snail under the water moving around, chances are its aquatic, like wise if you see a snail moving out of water, its probally land as to my knowledge, aquatic snails dont leave the water by choice.

well that's just the thing.... it wasn't really fully submerged....and just earlier, I saw one of my black mystery (aquatic) snails up out of the water on a rock......

crazy little buggers... the reason i'm worried is that i have snails (land) around here but I didn't know if we had aquatic snails or not....

so the tiny little thing is sitting in a dish half in the water half out.... hahahaha

OMG..... you are not going to believe this...

I just wen down stairs after my last post to check on the little snail and there is my black mystery sanil (same one as before) crusing along my floor...

finally the ter "there must be something in the water" applies! hahahaha!

Wow I can't believe this.... this is just raising more questions....

I changed out most of the water just to make sure, but everything else in that tank is doing fine.... i thinik it was just exploring...

put it in water if it lives its aquatic if not then you know the answer :)
