i know im supposed to put the sand into the tank after the rock to prevent a landslide if i get anything that is an overactive burrower, my question is how?, how do i get it into all the nooks and crannies around the bottom of the rock and how do i prevent the suspended sand particles that will be inevitable from clogging up the LR. i dont really want eggcrate in there as i believe it can create deadspots in the sand, and how the hell do i get the sand in place at the back of the rock, surely its going to be easier if i take the rock out  also i want the sand to be 3 or 4 inches deep (funds permitting) how did you guys do it?

Length of pipe or a the tube to a gravel cleaner syphon. Then when it's on the bottom something to waft it under the rocks, like a cleaning pad on a pole or a small net. I wouldn't worry about it settling on the rocks it will soon get blown away in the flow, if it doesn't you can just push it about by de-vacuming with the powerhead in your hand.

I just used a cup and poured it around the rock then used my powerhead to blow it off the rock where it settled!

i was thinking of getting a 2ltr drinks bottle and cutting off the base so i could use it like a funnel

I just tip it in lol, once the flow goes on it goes where it wants anyway.

Haha didn't know so many people do it so carefully I just chucked a handful at a time.

i did mine before my rock

Sand first + Rock + Goby/snails/sand sifting star, could = crushed critters.

I know I wouldn't want to think my Goby could get underneath my rock.

I had the fact that the tank was already full of Corals that were attached to the Live Rock in my Reef and I didn't want zoas full of sand. In the FOWLR I just dumped it in by the bucket load.

+ 1, but the empty bottle thing works well, thats similar to how I did mine :good: but if I were doing it again I would go with HG's solution every time

This is good to know for when I add my sand. :)

I just poured mine in :p

Question from me now, I put quite a bit in and the sand has covered the bottom two pieces of live rock. will this be detrimental to the biological filtration? THh sand is live sand so will the filtration provided by that compensate for the covered two pieces of rock?

Won't make no difference. Once the cloudiness has gone just aim a powerhead to blow it off or stick your hand in and wave it.

I doubt the sand was live when you bought it. It's been on a shop shelf for how long!

When adding sand I pour the sand into a funnel with a piece of hose attached to the bottom and drop the hose straight down the bottom of the tank. It defo reduces cloudiness.
