how do i prepare sand for tank

Yeah!! I am finally going to set up my 135 gallon tank and i need to know how to prepare play sand before i put it in. I know i have seen it on here before but i cant find it. grrr. ANy help will be appreciated.

Wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash wash and then wash it again, Keep washing it for ages even when you think its clean wash it again because if you dont it will cloud up the water.

My method:

1) Put sand in a bucket
2) Put bucket into empty bath
3) Put showerhead into bucket
4) Swirl showerhead around while water overspills from the bucket
5) Keep swirling till water runs clear from bucket
6) Pour water out of bucket, leaving sand in
7) Repeat

It took me about 30 mins per bucket load

Same here, about 30 minutes per bucket load.

Even then when I put the sand and water in the tank it was pretty foggy for about 4 hours or so. After it settled it looked great.

i guess u can do it like cleaning rice, cup ur hands get as much sand as possible rub ur hands together with sand repet repet drain and do it over again
