I plan on moving in the next couple months, and i'm not sure how to move my tank. I have a 30 gal tank with 30 lbs of LR, 3 fish and about 30 little crabs. Would i need to save all the water since its already been cycled? Also, would the fish need to wait before going back into the tank after a move, and how long must they wait? (i dont have a backup tank)

first you need containers, the larger the better as to not stress out the fish too much. Put live rock in one or two containers with a little water. Make sure they have lids to keep everything moist. Put the sand in another container with about 1" of water. Put the cleaners in another container filled about half way with water. Bag the fish and put them in a cooler with the rest of the water out of the aquarium. Move everything right away and set it all back up as quick as possible. This is taking into acount the move takes less than a day. If it is going to be longer sell all the livestock. Keep the sand and the live rock and set it up again from scratch.

Good posting. Thought i might add, I found it easier to keep all the original water. Two 15gallon camping water holders will surfice. They are food safe, so wont harm your water. Also, after you bagged your fish/crabs, if your weather is extreme, place them in a styrophome box with a lid. It can keep tem cool, or warm, depending on where you are. :)
