It sounds like your fish has ich. I am currently treating my tank for ich as well. The following link describes it in detail, much better than I would.

I cured ick in my cichlid tank in less than 4 days with a product called QuIck Cure. It's popular in stores and cheap(around $6 canadian). I hope your fish recovers quickly.
