I moved my pond comets inside back in August (my outdoor expensive pump broke). I had not finished cleaning out the pond-there was about 3" of water still in it last week (mid November). I noticed there was an area without ice covering it and saw movement. I figured out they were baby fish, of many different sizes. What I mean is 1 is 1/2" long, 3 or 4 are 1/4" long and the rest look like they were JUST born. Yes, I brought the little guys inside...
My (limited) understanding is that it takes 2 days or so for fish eggs to hatch. I guess it explains where the bigger one came from, but who fertilized all the brand new babies, or were they already fertilized and just waiting for some kind of temperature change in the pond? I'm confused!
