Somehow I missed out on the fact that guppies will munch on tank algae. My last guppies were from childhood, but I added two male guppies to my tank 2 days ago. Tonight I noticed that they are doing a great job eating a white/gray algae off of my filter intake and output tubes! They are eating flake and pellet foods just fine, but I guess they wanted more fiber! Do other guppy owners find the same thing?

Here's a pic of the little guys having breakfast today. They are doing a great job cleaning that hose fitting for me...

mine love algae and so do my platys when they arnt getting fed or breeding they spend the rest of the time cleaning my tank haha

If I had to bet, those fish are finding the micro-organisms that often can be found in algae. Pure algae is often picked at but seldom actually eaten by common poeciliids like guppies. For algae eating, there are far better choices than a guppy.
