How can you tell an old fish?

How can one tell if a fish is dying from old age?

from my experience, they are less active, spend more time on the top, color begins to fade and they arn't really fussy about food

probably LOTS more signs than this tho

I have a male guppy who's lost alot of his bright colours, lazes about floating on leaves and has a very ragged tail. I've had a long look and there aren't any fish nipping at his tail.

I inherited the guppy with the tank and I've had the tank for 4 months, so I'm assuming he is old. All my other fish all look and act fine.

It's a four year old white cloud.

His (or her- I can't tell, so I'll just call it a "he") back is not bend, but he swims with his head pointing downwards, and he's less active. His colours and eating habits are normal though.

looks like swim bladder disease , my goldfish had it, im not sure how to cure it though, i think feed him softer food, if u feed him flake food, that may be the proble, dip the food if water before feeding coz air will cause pain, ask in the fish imergancy section


im not sure though, coz he seems old, but white clouds can live up 2 10 yrs... good luck

I don't think he has swim bladder disease- another fish of mine had it and my white cloud isn't acting the same as the one with sbd (i know systems can vary from fish to fish, tho.)

I've been feeding my white cloud the same flake food since I got him (except I added a fourth type of food last year, so he can have more variety).

If he does have swim bladder disease, is there a cure?
