I know there are pictures, but can some one explain it to me, cos all the fish I see in shops are young(i guess) and they look the same. I know males have longer fins - more pointed? and the females are more rounded?

the only Keyhole I have seen that is rounded looks sort deformed and instead of being oval bodied it is really round?

so what I am looking for?

cheers

with cichlids its hard to tell until they grow the shore way is to look out for a breeding tube at base of cichlid long a thin pointed male n female is short n stubby,,,,,anyhow if your desperate for a breeding pair you have to get a few n let them pair of naturally returning the rest to the shop....ideal way is to get them all from diff shops so as to try not to have from same batch<family

thank you, I guess I could see if my friendly LFS man will let borrow the three he has got in,

mind you would it be a problem if I ended up with two boys?

they might be a little annoyed I guess

I find keyholes are hard to sex.. I don't think I've ever had much luck.. I try to look at the fins mostly, but even then I don't think I'm very good at it.

wow thank you, would you mind if I took them - as in printed out the pic? and showed them at the shop?
I *think*mine is a boy and maybe the one I think is deformed  is a girl......

yours are lovely fish btw
