the duck weed in my tank going crazy, everytime i try to get rid of them, they will cover the whole tank surface in a few days.

it is very difficult to get rid of them totally, esp now they mix with my moss and ricca. and float any narrow corner in the tank.

Anyone has good idea?

i really do not want to buy a duck u know :p

My ducks never ate the stuff :p
the only way really is to just keep fishing it out, its maintaining a low level rather than eradication.

Well for this method to work you'd need a nuclear bomb to start with...

Seriously though, I haven't been able to get rid of mine - I keep it under control by fishing it out regular but it's still there...

what on earth do you want duckweed for?! once you have it you ain't ever getting rid.

Looks good in some tanks, aspecially if there are bubble nesting fish.
I had duckweed come in on riccia, could never get rid of it until i stripped down the tank.

I guess but off hand I cant think of any that feature duckweed and it looking nice but that's all opinion and I'm not entering any arguments on that :)

ps. sorry for thread jacking

Not sure if this will work but I thought that duckweed stayed relativly close to the surface (even the small roots that break off that eventually grow again) - Can you use a piece of hose, start a syphon going but have it half in/half out the water, this would mean skimming the surface and drawing in anything thats floating within an inch of the surface, you would have to make sure you try and cover the whole of the tank but i know when i used this method to get some floating oily stuff off my water, it worked a treat and seemed to draw it all in ?

Sorry if this wont work :S only thing I can think of as that stuffs a nightmare!

no, the syphon work because of the air pressure, if the hose is half in / half out of the water, the syphon will not work.

To be honest, i really regret to get the duckweed in. Sometimes my apple snail eat a little, but they have a lot of food to choose, so not so keen. i really get tired to net them out every week. May be i have to get everything out to set up it again as a new tank?

actually if you had a python or similar contraption it would work, just invert it under the water (make sure it is full) and make sure the big tube doesn't become completly full of air, you would not be losing your suction until the 2" pipe was depleted of all the water and since you are draining into a 5/8 hose you have a fair bit of time. I used this method to clean the scum off the surface of my water and it worked quite well (I also have about 50' of hose so it is quite forgiving with a little bit of air in the line).....duck weed I am not sure, but it seems plossible.

I used to have duckweed but did the same. Just took a fishnet to it and kept taking every last little bit out and eventually got the better of it.

Worse thing I have ever introduced ( I was & still am newish to this)

Used another disaster ( won't bore you with that) to take the oportunity to strip the tank down & clean out every last bit.

Yuk, horrible stuff. As it is I am chucking handfuls of water lettuce in both tanks out each week- wish my HC would grow as easily as the floating plants

Don't foget to dispose of duckweed responsibly. If you think its a nightmare in your tank, imagine what its like once it gets into the water course etc. Best thing to do is to compost it or bin it. Try not to flush it down the sink/drain.
