just seen on the news about the UK's largest gold fish, I knew theywere big bit this big ?????? next time someone asks "will my goldfish be ok in this bowl" tell them to have a look at this how big a goldfish can get

wouldnt want to see this chap in a bowl.

Yeah, goldies can get pretty big. I notice the video is very careful not to show the size of the tank it's kept in, strangely enough.

don't quote me on this but i'm sure the record line caught goldfish is around 5lb! admittedly this is in a lake and a brown version but effectively the same species.

Beats me why goldfish are sold as kids fish.... more specialist than tropical i think

And this is why you cannot keep a goldfish in a bowl, or even a 20 gallon tank. :good:

Here is the world's largest fancy goldfish on record, Bruce:

And this shows his scale in comparison to humans:

I saw that. I do some fishing and carp which goldfish decend from have grown to 96lbs.

No goldfish are not decend from the carp, they are different species through they are in same family.

Koi are aquarium strains of the common carp, goldfish come from crucian carp which are not same species of common carp.

I've seen bigger goldfish (both fancy and singletailed) reached more than a foot long. The only one fancy goldfish that I never seen in a foot long range, the bubble eyes rarely reach more than 6 inch long.

i sawthat in the newspaper today about a goldfish that was huge. and i thought that was big. but its not compared to that goldfish Bruce.

I noticed that, and
Frances Marchall, a friend of Ms Shaw, said: "I just think Goldie is incredible. I don't understand how he could have got so big in the tank that he's in."

makes me a tad suspicious that her tank is too small. However, she must be doing something right if she's had him for 15 years, and he looks very healthy.
