Ive just got a bargain of a Juwel 300 (used to have a 240).......it is deeper so my 4 x T8 tubes arent cutting the mustard and I want to upgrade to T5 before any algae gets a hold.

I like the flat fitting of the juwel hoods so dont really want a luminaire...............Im thinking of using my existing light batons, get rid of the T8 light fittings and somehow attach T5 interpet twin starters...........Im confused though with the tubes that are sold.......some on aqua essentials are listed by inch and other by watts..........the 55w interpet daylights are only 21 ".....if I had these presumably I'd have to have one on the left of the the baton and the other to the right.

What are the best T5 tubes to have for plant growth and how should I space and fix them ?

Interpet Daylight plus are the best for that kind of unit.

You can put them anywhere you like but will not be able to attach them to the sides of the baton.

The clips that hold them go upwards and therefore will need to go through the top, and with Juwel lids having flaps allied with the heat that these T5s give out I'm not too sure if the flap will stay secure as with my fixed plastic lid the tube has slightly warped the plastic.

With the flap it may warp more and therefore the flap could drop below the lid and be dipping the light in the tank.

They are awesome lights though.

thats not good.............the only other option then would be to buy some arcadia I bars to replace the juwel batons I have and use the existing flaps for my tank. With 4 T8 tubes already I dont have the room to add any more tubes alongside the ones I have

Adding different light is normally easy, and don't get the I-bar its expensive and unnecessary IMHO. Just get either a pair of twin T5 starters or a couple of compact T5s starters, they should be easy to blot under the existing hood.
