Ive just put a young royal plec, 3 inchs in length into my tank. He has very proud eyes and a flat belly which im told is the first thing I should look at when purchasing him.

He was put into a 125l tank with a PH of 6 - 6.5 and I had just completed a 50% water change about 4 days ago so the nitrate is very very low. I have a decent sized bit of bogwood (mopani) for him to much on, I feed my other fish Tetra Min Flakes, and ive put a nice flat stone with a small courgette rubber banded to it.
So far over the last 12 hours he had a quick scout about then attached him self to the bottom of my fluval and occasionally re adjusts himself.

my questions are,

Am I caring for him correctly?
Is He nocturnal?
How long will it take for him to settle right in?

Hi

I have a royal plec approx 6" and only rarely see him out in open water, i feed him a slice of potato every other day which he tends to eat at night. I think that this shy behaviour is perfectly normal. Ive had him about 6 weeks and feel that he is only just begining to settle into him new surroundings now.

Hope this helps.

royals love the wood and its an essential part of their diet

I rarely see mine ubless I walk in and catch him out

Lovely looking fish as well especially when they get bigger

I feed mine on courgette and catfish pellets and he seems to be alright

ive got a large L190 and just got 3 small maybe 2 inches L191s and there constantly sucknig on the wood and the new ones are very very active all day every day, but the older 190 only comes out wen theres food or at nite i can hear his bushy mouth on the glass, i feed them on wafers daily or everyother day and give them veg now and agen
