sorry for being a pest the question is rio 125 with built in filter also small hospital/quaretine tank with fluval u2 filter. by keeping the u2 filter in my rio 125 to be seeded does this have to be running or can it just be stuck to the side of the tank and get seeded that way?. this is so i can move it into hospital tank in an emergency and the hospital tank will be cycled straight away? is this correct? .

Keep it running. You want water movement throughout the media inside the filter.

I've discovered a brilliant new way of running a hospital tank - zeolite or nitrazorb. Won't get nuked by meds, can be recharged with an aquarium salt solution and can be thrown away without the waste of throwing away seeded media. Means you can do a full scrub down on the hopital tank after each use (including sterilising the filter) and you don't have to wait for seeded media.

You would need to keep an eye on the levels in the tank and make sure you replace the zeolite every month or so (with weekly 'recharges').

Sorry I've not heard of these before - what are they? Ammonia/Nitrite absorbers?

Zeolite chemicaly removes ammonia, I believe by absorbing it, and Nitrazorb (by API) does that for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates.

Very cool! Will bear that in mind when i get round to getting a QT tank.
