In his summer coat, his colouring is lmost exactly the same as that horses. :good:

Appaloosa? But he doesn't have the classic appaloosa patterning??

No he doesn't but he is a registered appy. To be registered as an appy the horse must have one parent who is a registered appy and they must display 3 out of 4 of the classic appy traits which are: The patterning on the coat, striped hooves, mottled skin, and white scarella around the eyes, phoenix fits the the criteria, the trait he doesn't have is the patterned coat

Really? Where did you register him to? I always thought that the appaloosa patterning was an essential part of an appaloosa horse, it is what they are famous for, without it it would be like have a Shire horse without feathered legs or a Pinto which is not piebald or scewbald etc  .

I didn't register him he was already registered when I bought him. He would never win in an appy class, but he is legally registered, lol.

I had Joker, an appy/quarter horse mix that was all black, except for his white star on his forehead and one white sock. The mom was a blue roan appy(that's what my cousins called her) and his dad, Ace, was a sorrel Q.H. (his daddy was NASTY....nasty temper...bit, bucked, wouldn't go, etc. Usually only my uncle rode him b/c he was the only one that could control him...He was a really beautiful horse, though. my joker was good and inherited his mom's traits).

I had to sell him when my dad sold the acreage :-( I really miss him We had to sell the other two also. Joker has a special place in my heart, though. He was my first horse!

You have some nice horses, Jaded 12!
