Today I’ve visited a couple of stores. One of them was the hardware store called Hornbach. This is a chain store. which also has an aquarium section. The store looked great but the help I had of an employee was the downside. She clearly showed no interest to help. She contradicted me. Fish I was interested in, she told me she wouldn’t sell them simply because she thought they were too small to sell. Next thing was that she told me that those fish should be booked first before they could be sold. And that was something she didn’t feel like doing. Then she told me that she knew everything about livebearers and that she kept herself busy with livebearers all her life. But she was so careless in her words and deeds towards me. She made a number of mistakes. Which already tells me that she was lacking a lot of knowledge. She was even convinced that she knew way more than I did. She told me that no one else would help me when I requested her to bring in another colleague to help me. But in the end I was able to buy those fish I wanted. I stayed polite and thanked her for her help. And it was my last time for sure to buy fish from
them. If you don’t like to help customers, you’re in the wrong spot.

I would email an official complaint to head office about the staff member not wanting to sell you fish because they have to be booked first (whatever that means). you could also mention you have been keeping livebearers for decades, they might offer you a job :)

Your first day on the job and the staff member comes over and says you can't have those fish. You can say "shut up, I am your new boss". :)

It's a shame someone has an attitude like that as ultimately it will likely lead to other customers ending up with unsuitable fish for their needs/wants. Good job you know your stuff and were able to correct her!

WHAT??? you have hardware stores with aquariums???
Yes, we do... But this chain store is the only one in our country which has an aquarium section in every store they have.

To be honest, this is the very first time that I heard about booking a fish as well. She clearly made that up.

Well, a friend of mine notified me today that she had similar problems with this particular employee. And she's even making a case out of it.
I also noticed that she didn't even bagged those fish correctly. When I got home, all the air was out of those bags. For even I was telling her that she closed the bag wrongly. But she just put her chin up and said that they'll survive.
She was totally not interested in helping customers.

A lot of us seem to live on the wrong side of the Atlantic.

We get rude retail without fish and gear like that.
I must be lucky because most people in retail here (doesn't matter what the business is) are quite pleasant. I can't say I've had to deal with rude retail staff ever.

The last time I booked something like that, it ended in a fishtail !

There are some people that should work retail and others that should not. Shoot, my last job before retiring was retail and I really sort of enjoyed it even though I was just there for 5 years until I was old enough to retire. I ran the photo department at a local Walgreens. Being a photographer myself added to my computer knowledge it was like a perfect match for me and customers loved me to the point that there were some that would turn around and leave if I wasn't working. I think that the most important part of working retail is being happy with yourself. If you are not happy with yourself you really can't make others happy and making people happy is actually one of the most important things in working retail and any other type of sales position.

With flags that were thrown up in this story I sort of find myself pitying this person. This person cannot be happy with their life and is insecure.

Is it the store or one person at the store? There is only one 'fish' store near where i live and it has several employee who are er not very good; so i just avoid them and use the ones that are not totally suck rotten eggs (of course these days 90% of the aquarium stuff i want is not very commonly found near where i live so there is that issue.

I’m not retail… but suspect they were not entered in inventory… that is what I would suspect “not in n the book” means??? and if that’s the case, I also suspect it may be very few people who are capable of doing that???

Between 18 and at least 24 to be honest... I knew nearly everything... That my reach of studying had... And the guts to go down the rabbit hole.

And make BS up to be on top... But At least I tried to use as much as possible what was studied and verified. Since logic and my father would have been digging the hole with the rabbit's teeth.

And only refrained to use that logic when higher power could not be consulted. So I was doing the best I could.

Now the reach of studying and the number of rabbit holes, in every field has exceeded the capacity of the rabbit.

Loll

Possible but it still remains that the store employee seems to have been out of line and I will stand behind my previous post. ;)
