Hello, I am a new member to the forum and I started a brand new tank last week. I will be keeping pea puffers in it and I have one now, and am waiting for the LFS to call me with their next shipment to get 5 more. I have read that hornwort is an easy plant and can be used for backdrop foliage, but I have also read that it does not do well in substrate. I have mine tucked about a half inch into my sand and I'm curious if it'll impede its growth and rot or if it'll still grow well. Please advise.

It may hold out fine but most the time it will lose it's leaves and float out of the substrate. Hornwort does not produce roots to anchor itself in.

To keep it anchored, you can take some hornwort stems, tie them together with some fishing line and tie it to either a piece of ceramic filter media (the hollow ones are good for this) or some other form of weight such as submerged wood or rocks and keep it weighed down rather than planted. You can even tie it to suction cups, place suction cup at substrate level.
