Is it common when you first get a female betta that she has horizontal stripes? I was just wondering because I just got another female and she has them.

It means they are stressed. If you just put them in their tank, it's common for them to be stressed because it's a new enviroment, it should go away in a day or so when they get settled.

Also, very young, dark bodied bettas have those stripes, until all their pigment develops.

yeah i have a darkblue female and her stressbars are black grey and white and it makes her look like a snake. But she only has tehm when shes stressed.
