I am designing a hood to house my new lighting for my 55 gallon. I was wondering, do you guys put anything over the tops of the tank to shield splashing on the lights or ballasts? I have a flip back glass covering for mine and was planning on leaving it on, or getting a piece of lexan to cut for it, since these have plastic spacing for over the edge filters. what do you guys do and suggest to do?

The tubes and fittings will be waterproof, so as long as the hood is treated or waterproof/splash resistent then theres no need for a cover. Unless you have very splashy fish or ones that like jumping...
