Hello everyone!
Well, I finally have that 29-gallon set-up that one of my professor's gave me. He also gave me a 55 gallon, but I don't have that yet, because it didn't fit in the car (we were hauling other stuff, too).
The hood it has isn't as long as the tank (there's plastic/plexi-glass(?) on the part the hood doesn't cover) and I'm pretty sure it doesn't have near-enough wattage for live plants. I'd like to get a new hood for it and a double-light strip. Would I be better off a) buying a hood without any light strip and getting a separate light strip (I found a hood-only on eBay for $9.99, plus $10 shipping/handling); b) getting a hood with a single-light strip (perhaps incandescent, because it's cheaper) and then buying a double-light strip later; or c) doing something else? Money is an issue right now - we don't have a lot of it. Obviously, I won't be able to get all these parts at once, but I'm trying to figure out the best way about getting them. A incandescent hood with a light strip is five or ten dollars more than the one on eBay without the light strip. Perhaps I should get one with a light to use until I can get a double-light strip? There is a light strip with the tank right now, and if I got the light-less hood, I'd just use the light strip I have.
Suggestions, comments, and the like would be appreciated. Recommendations of where to buy would also be appreciated. I've looked at Big Al's, PetsMart, PetCo, and Foster and Smith's websites.
