Whilst at the LFS this morning i noticed A tank with small pleco type fish in and they were labled Hong Kong Pleco's. Unfortunatly the guy i usually deal with was not in so i didnt ask questions.

Can any one point me in the direction of info on them. all i know is they are cold water fish.

Can they mix with goldies, how big do they grow, diet etc

I would like to get one but need to do some research first

thank you

hong kong plecos are also called hillstream loaches, borno suckers
or chinese buterfly plecos.

search for hillstream loaches for the best results.

I think it's also called the chinese algae eater.

i have seen these fish everywhere and now i have a goldfish tank i might just get one do they eat flakes or algea or both .

There are many species of borneo suckers.

I have one in my 20 gallon community tank and it's doing great.

He usually stays on the glass, nibbling at algea (they are not that great for algea) and when i drop pellets for the cories he goes crazy for them. whatever hits the bottom he will eat, may it be flakes, pellets, forzen...

They are found in coldwater streams but they do great in tropical tanks as well

I guess they would be fine with goldfish
