my red honey gouramis/red robins have gotten a kinda dirty coat of black over night.

On one its whole tail is covered and back end, and on the other there is a little kinda greyish coat on its belly.....

i thought it might be slimy skin because it says that it creates a grey film over the body but can anyone help me!

PLEASE?

Slimy skin=treat fast!!!

It is most commonly caused by Cyclochaeta domerguei, but it can also be caused by Chilodon cyprini, it's close relation, C. hexastichus, or, in a worst case scenario, Costia necatrix.

In Costia, it is 100% fatal if untreated.

One treatment is a salt solution. The affected fishes are bathed in a 1.5 to 2.5% solution of salt for 1/4 to 1/2 hour. SInce it is possible that the parasite produces cysts with a higher resistance, treatment must be repeated after 2 days. In Costia infections, three or four repetitions may be needed for a complete cure.

I believe there are also medicines that may be bought at your local fish store if this doesn't prove effective (it should).

Hope that helps!
