Help my honey gourami is sitting at the bottom of the tank all the time. He's been doing this for a few days now

How big is your tank and how long has it been set up? What other fish are in the tank?

Is your tank cycled and have you got any results from any water tests?

Sorry for all the questions, but most 'illness' in fish is to do with housing and water quality.

In any case, if ever you have a fish that doesn't look 'right', you should do a big water change; do at least 75%, making sure the new water is temperature matched and dechlorinated, and see how he looks then :)

Hi the tank is a 190 trigon been set up for 8/9 months now water is fine tank cleaned out regular. We have tetras (all sorts) platy's harlequins cat fish a big plec and 2 snail. They have all been fine. Just this one stays at the bottom of the tank has a swim now and then and then back to the bottom again. I have now put it in a fry net to keep it away from the other I don't want them bullying it. Also water it all treated. Thanks any help would be good.

We really need actual numbers from tests to confirm that everything's running ok.

Have you done the large water change yet? Is the fish showing any other symptoms (laboured breathing, marks or swellings)?

Hi no other signs of illness there is 6 neon, 7 rummy, 4 black neon 5 harlequins 5 Mickey Mouse platy's, 3 honey gourami 3 albino cat fish 1 plec (big bad Barry) 2 bumble bee snail and maybe 1 dozen baby Mickey Mouse. Yes water change done and tank is looking good all other fish are fine. I have even put some peas in as someone said it could be constipation.

Hmmm, bit of a mystery then.

Not uncommon in fishkeeping, I'm afraid; fish disease and medication is not very well advanced, tbh, except for the commercial fisheries side of things. Constipation tends to make fish more 'floaty' than sinking, but the peas are worth a try, and certainly will be good for all your fish.

A full set of water tests (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH) would really help though.

Thanks for the help I will get that up ASAP
