I want to get an asian green arowana but my largest tank is only 450 litres, is that big enough?

If not, what would be big enough?

Need a 150gal tank for one of those fish.

for big fish like that, it's more accurate to give dimensions than straight-up volume.

for a precise guideline, see CFC's Tank Sizes for Tankbusters in the pinned topics.

otherwise for a 2' max. fish, the absolute, fit-it-in-with-a-shoehorn minimum tank is 6'x2'x2'

for a 3' max. fish, the absolute, fit-it-in-with-a-shoehorn minimum tank is 8'x3'x2'

CFC's tankbuster guidelines are better for the fish, but the vast majority of people end up keeping aro's in undersized tanks simply because an 8'x3'x2' tank is really huge! but if you want the maximum show potential from your aro, you ought to provide the best available tank--otherwise you run the risk of deformities as it continues to grow in size.

(btw, 3' = 3 feet = ~1 meter)

Well my tank is 5' x 2.5' x 2 so i dont think that I will be able to permenantly home one :-(

Oh well

thanks for info.

is that 5ft long x 2.5ft wide?

if it is i would say you could grow one out in there for quite a long time. in my opinion the extra 6" wide is better than the 12" extra length you get with a 6x2x2.

if you lived in asia were the green aro is from then most people keep there asian aro`s in tanks that are 4x2x2 simply because they carnt get bigger tanks in there house.

i still would recomend a 6x2.5x2 for a green for life though.

yes that is 5' long by 2.5' wide, but also my tank is bow fronted so there is an extra bit there as well. What do you think?

depends on whether or not you would mind upgrading in 3-5 years. if the 5' tank is a "permanent" member of your household, then i still think you should hold off. if you can upgrade a size or two, then maybe its worth consideration.

Unfortunately I still go to school and Hope to be moving out of my parents house in 3 years  (curse my youthfulness) lol. Once I move out I would love a bigger tank, but then of course things can easily change in 3 years. So I think that it is a no to getting an asian green, even though it pains me to say it as I would dearly love one.
