Home Made Spray Bar

shortly after adding a male Betta to my tank i realised that he was quite fussy, and would refuse swimming around near the filter due to the water coming out of the outlet. I made a simple spray bar using a piece of my airline tubing with various holes put in it using a scalpel. The problem was that this didn't look too good. However, whilst i was doing some college assignments i realised that it'd be better to use some rigid plastic tube, and that the biro i was using would be perfect (i suspect you guys and gals are often thinking about your fish when you really should be doing other stuff). I striped out the inside of the biro, and drilled various 1/16 diameter holes along it on two opposite sides. Then, purely by luck i managed to find a 90degree plastic bend piece, which with some gentle persuasion with a scalpel would allow one ond of the biro to be pushed within it. Then i simply gently pushed the other end of the 90degree bend into the outlet of my filter.

Works well, doesnt look too bad, and the fish are happy.

Its a great idea, but aren't spray bars supposed to be above the surface to get oxygen into the water?, or doesn't it matter if its above or below?

Its the movement of water at the surface that gets oxygen into the water - doesnt matter if its above/below the surface...

i thought you had to break the surface of the water for it to happen faster
