Holiday Pill Boxes

Well it's prob been done before.i am just back from holiday and I asked my neighbour to feed my fish.she has no clue about them.so I used the daily dose pill boxes you get for medication.i just emptied the usual amount I would feed into the specific days I asked and she just tipped it in.perfect.

That's what I do too. I get my son to call and feed the fish - he has to drive almost past our house to get to work. When he remembers.......

Thing to remember to do is to hide the rest of the food. In case they think that the fish still look hungry......

I have fish in my classroom at school (high schoolers 14-18 years old), and my students are always begging me to let them feed them because they always look hungry.
 
My fish at school are so conditioned at this point that whenever anyone comes near the tank, they come right up to the glass to beg for food!    
 
 
But, yes, the medicine boxes are ideal for helping aquarist novices to dose out the proper amounts of food.  Just as a side note, I'd like to add that the vast majority of fish are fine for several days with no food... so for a shorter trip, there's no need to arrange for someone to feed them.   (just an fyi)

I left strict instructions with the people feeding the cats and tortoises that they were to leave the fish tanks alone. No problems at all after 11 days. Water change before I went and no food the day before either and a change with a feed when I got back. There were actually a couple of baby cories in the tank when I returned.

Yup...  fish need far less food than a lot of folks believe.

I'll be honest here ... I've always fed my fish twice a day and because I have angels and small fish my thinking was "if they don't get hungry they won't see the smaller tank mates as food" But recently I had to strip and move my tank and so all my stock had to be moved into a temporary tank in the kitchen. I was worried about the filter not supporting the fish as I could only put one of my two externals into this temporary tank. I also ran the internal filter that the tank had but I was still concerned so I decided not to feed the fish for safety. 
The fish were in there for 2 days with no food. I counted every fish back and no fish were missing. I'm now re-thinking my feeding habits

I believe it's def beneficial for your tank as a whole to fast now and again.
