im sad to say my big oscar has hole in the head pretty bad, ive read alot of different things about causes and cures but it doesnt add up. anyone know what causes it and how to cure it...

im baffled, his diet couldnt be better and more varied, i dont use carbon, and i do frequent water changes.
Could it be genetic, like from inbreeding or overbreeding???

metronidazl
it is a protozoal disease, cant remember whether causitive agent is hexaminta or spironucleus

need a script for this med in england although some americans were getting the med as...oh s@"t my memory is bad..
sorry cant remember
try searching for metro and aquarium products , might get lucky

thanks andrew and smb for your help...i tracked down a medication called paragon II which contains metronidazole, an anti-protazoan...evidently its real effective against hole in the head but its also very potent so i have to be careful with dosing amounts...ill keep you guys informed about my progress.
thanks

That's good to hear Larry. I never looked in this thread again as I must have hit the "Mark All Posts As Read" indicator a while ago before checking this one and didn't know there were new replies.

Thanks for the update and let us know how it turns out for you.

potent ? what do you mean
metronidazol is not particularly water soluble so puttingin an aquarium makes for ####e potency
it's oil soluble and works much better if added to food witha bit of vegetable oil

ive read that paragon 2 is a particularly strong medication and should be administered with care. im not sure exactly what makes it so potent ive just heard it through people who've used it...
