I've just noticed my betta has a hole in its side behind the first fin past its head on the left. Its about the size of half a pea.

Can anyone tell me what it is and what might have caused it?

Is there any medication I can give it or is it going to die?

Thanks in advance

sounds like an ulcer. What color is it? Does it look infected. If it is anulcer then maracyn or maracyn 2 would help. If it is just an injury and is not infected then melafix or something along that line would help the healing process. HTH

Its an off white / grey colour, I don't think its been attacked because its right behind the fin and shurly the fin would have been damaged if it had been attacked.

What type of algae eater is it...some attack fish.
Definitely could be the result of an infected bite the fin would not have to be affected if it was swung forward at the time.

Not sure what type but its still quite small.

Please can somone advise me...

The betta now has what looks like some kind of fungus growing from the hole, its white, furry and has little shoots coming from it.

Cheers

U got fungus. I'd get an antifungal. Not sure what you got to do the job over there.
