Hi people, my platys have had babies so want to have a holding tank for them. Any ideas of something I could make to do the job? I was thinking of just using a net I have which they woudlnt be able to get above to be eaten, but they wouldnt be able to move much. Any ideas?

Thanks

Do you need something you can float in the main tank, like a breeding trap? If so, you can use large margarine/ice cream tubs with lots of holes or slits cut in to let the water circulate. Or you can cut the whole base out and replace it with net.

Don't look pretty, but they'll do the job :good:

If you're looking for a new tank you can pick up 80L plastic bins from B&Q for a tenner. Dangle a heater down the middle (loop of cable over a piece of wood) and chuck a sponge filter in and you've got a big new tank.

Yes great idea! thanks

A breeding trap isn't expensive, about £5, looks better, does the job its supposed to and can use it again.
