Hob Filter

Just wondering if their are any HOB Filters in the UK, as i havent seen ANY around! Is their any links you could give me? Or a recommendation? Also, if not, what cheapish filter would you recommend for a 35g (144ltr)? (Can be internal/external)

Pets at home keep them... no idea on price as I'm not looking for one, but the other gear I get there is very reasonable.

Im not in the UK, but wouldn't most pet shops sell hob filters? If they don't, see if you can get them to order some in... Or another alternative would be to go to another pet store, or try ebay (last resort lol).

Suprisingly HOB filters are not very well known here in the UK and very few shops stock them (dont think I have seen any for sale in my local fish shops over the last 5 years).

With regards to the filter how cheap is cheap?

I would recommend an enhiem (sp) or fluval (some people report issues with these) external canister filter. Its less equipment sitting in the tank, adds a small amounf of extra water volume to the tank and generally are much better then internal filters.

Ehiems tend to be expenisve, I would recommend a tetratec, Ive heard nothing but good things from them (same goes for ehiem but tetratec are cheaper).

On a side note, I've never seen a HOB filter in the Uk either, must just be something that didnt cross the pond yet.

My LFS is selling the Eheim range of HOB filters, but is probably of no use to you
However if you don't mind buying off the net zooplus.co.uk do them as well they are listed under external filters.

dont forget to have a look at the aqua one range... quite a few people on here have them and they are pretty reliable.

well i was going to say any good LFS should have some. if they dont or dont know what they are, find one that does and spend your money there.

Ill look into the external tertatec's, as they seem pretty good.

No lfs keep them around here. Eruope tends to either have internal filters or external cannisters. HOBs make up a tiny part of the filter market in Europe, so most just don't bother with a filter that isn't going to sell.

My regular lfs doesn't stock any HOB, but he is excellent and I wouldn't stop visiting him just because he doesn't stock a product that most Europeans don't want.

oh i didnt realise, around here all, even the smallest have hobs in, well of the 7 or so i visit. i assumed it would be the same everywhere.

You can get the Eheim Liberty HOB filter from the following web site, they do 3 sizes form 40 ltrs to 200 ltrs.

HOB would be very handy if 1) They were as effective as externals 2) They had intergrated heating so you could reduce clutter in the tank (like a sump).
