Duff has a couple grayish metallic looking spots on his side which at first I thought it was ick, then I noticed the same color is on the underside of his mouth. Homer has a similar coloration on the underside of his mouth, but exhibits none of the symptoms Duff does. Duff seems to be scratching his mouth, not the spots on the tank sides, but only on the front of the tank and on the side where Homer's tanks is.

It's almost like there's something on that side of the tank that Duff wants to get out too  There's already aquarisol in the tank (using it as a preventative) so I went ahead and raised the temp to 82. Nitrite and ammonia levels are @ 0.

I checked again and it does look like Duff has ick. The metallic spots I saw yesterday are still there, but upon closer inspection (magnifying glass) the metallic spots on his side are different from his and Homer's under mouth coloring. Plus his scratching has become more persistent. I raised the temp up to 85-86ish. Hopefully this will get resolved soon

Hi where the river goes,

Well, sorry to hear that your fish have ick or what you think is ick , you should start a thread in the emergency section you will get lots of help there. Hope he comes out okay!!

Hi Where the river goes :)

Are you trying to cook your fish or cure them?

If your fish have a lot of little white spots on them it is ich. Get a medication to treat it at your lfs. If you do not have any corys in your tank, add aquarium salt at the rate of 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons of water and keep the temperature at about 82 degrees.

Treat the problem for twice as long as the instructions on the medicine call for to be sure it is gone.

Now, are you sure it's ich? I'm asking because the way you describe the other spots it does not sound like ich. Of course, it could be more than one problem going on at the same time. Proper diagnosis is important because if you waste time treating a problem that does not exist, you are losing time with treating the real problem.

Lol. Cure them. The tank already has aquarisol and salt as I use them as a preventative. I should have been more specific about the temperature thing. I raised the temp to 85-86 degrees only for a couple of hours and then slowly, slowly brought it back down to 82 where it is now. Duff's doing better, scratching less and swimming more actively than yesterday :)
