I was feeding the tank tonight, and I noticed a small(ish) pincer hanging out from under a rock catching the new era flake I'd just put in.

Problem is the tips were black! His claws resemble the markings of a porcelain crab but with dark tips - similar to this Xanthidae:

Yoinked the rock out he was hiding in, which has a large hole running through it and tried to flush him out using tank water and a turkey baster - no joy.

I want to try the glass trap but unsure of what to use as bait - haven't got anything other than frozen mysis and brine at the moment. I'd rather catch him and sump him than risk killing him :)

Any ideas?

Why not just put the piece of LR with the crab in in yer sump?

He's in the nano display tank at the moment, haven't filled the 5fter yet :( if I catch him he'll go in a breeding box for now.

Also, the rock he's in has lots of button polyps and mushies and my feather duster on  Going to try the glass trap later hopefully :)

Just tried squirming cold ro into his hole but the little sod won't come out! He has a network of caves, so I've named him osama

He is definitely a xanthid and looks identical to the above picture! Lairy git too cracking his claw at me when I was watching him!
