Ok, I've posted here about the high PH in my tank before. It's a little over 8 coming out of the tap and it was over 9 in my tank for a couple days last week. To lower the PH a bit I added peat moss to my filters, it helped a bit and actually got the PH below 8.
Anyhoo, I was told by a number of people to get a reverse osmosis unit to soften the water and lower the PH... Well I got an RO/DI unit and tested the water that came out of it. It's definately softer (KH value) but the PH is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay higher, my test kit goes to a PH of 10 and it's over that! (tetra Laborette kit, really deep purple color)
So what's the deal? Was I misled or am I missing something here? The "waste water" from the RO unit has a PH of about 9 so it's still higher than my tap water and pretty well softened too. I know KH acts in stabalizing PH, so does this mean that with my KH so low my PH just shoots up with nothing to stop it? I'm lost, Please help!
(I don't know that I'd call this an "emergency", but I don't know where else to post it)
