Hi just thought id post this in this section, last week i had an emergency that cost me one of my dwarf rainbows.

I work away from home for 2 days per week i left my tanks in the care of my dad, before i went i cleaned my filter, the next day my day did and i think i crashed my tank.

the nitrite levels spiked my dad checked after a rainbow fish died. He called me at work, i asked him to do a 30% water change and use kent ammonia detox, i had to work the next day so he did another, i luckily had a 70lt tank with 3 filters one was a biological fludized bed filter (at my flat), so i took that filter clamped the tubes so it remained full of tank water and transfered it too my high nitrite tank. I tested it before putting it on and it showed high nitrite about 10 hours later after the filter was fitted the nitrite was almost down to zero. I also added some cycle.

the filter had been matured for a 6 weeks, the water is now perfect, am so happy i didnt loose any other fish i have some dwarf cichlids including albino kribs and agazzi's.

It has instilled faith in fluidized bed filters have one on all my tanks they are expensive but luckily my lfs had a sale on so got them half price.
