went to my lfs and noticed they had something called a high finned chinese shark that were selling for around 30 dollars does anybody know something about this fish max lengh and so on.

Seen something on them somewhere, can't remember where though. However I can remember that they get massive, 12" plus I think, and they look nothing like juveniles when they get to adults. They look like quite drab and ugly.

I'll try and find where I saw it.

Myxocyprius asiaticus is a large growing temperate water species that is better suited to life in a pond than in a tank as long as the pond is kept from freezing over in the winter. They can grow to around 3 feet in length and become increasingly aggressive with age.

CFC is right. They require very specialised housing.

They are often sold when small and cute to unsuspecting people. As they grow, the stripes fade and the fish becomes an overall grey colour. The dorsal fin doesn't grow at the same rate as the rest of the fish, so as it gets bigger, the fin looks less and less impressive.

They are not, in my opinion, suitable for aquaria.

It's a shame those get so big; they're really nice fish.

yes they get up to 4 feet but only in wild they do get to around 12 in an aquarium they are very adaptable to warm and cold waters i have one in my 30 gal. tank and he is just fine ive had him almost 5 months and he has grown but they grow very slowly. they mostly eat algae off of the rocks, but i sometimes feed the small algae wafers just to make sure he is getting enough to eat. he is not aggressive at all and is left alone by my 2 african butterfly fish and 2 angel fish. any questions just ask.

the reason he is growing so slow is becuase hes in such a small aquarium. What your doing is stunting his growth and this is bad and will make him uncomfortable and shorten his lifespan dramaticly. If kept properly in a large aquarium (at least 8 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet tall which is over 500 gallons) he would grow much faster and probobly grow to an upwards of 2 or more feet. But in the tank you keep him in he will grow to about 6 inches and then die in a few months. I would advise you take him back to you lfs or preferably try to find him a suitable home.
