Hiding Places For My Cuckoo

I`ve got a cuckoo catfish and I was thinking about another couple of "caves" for it. I`ve been told that terracota plant pots are good for this, should I use the proper terracota or the plastic ones. I heard that the water balance can change if you use the proper ones, is this true??
