Why do most people have their filter facing too their left or right? (so that its wider)

Why not have the flow facing the front of the tank, this will make the filter seem smaller right? (as the filter is slimmer than the lengh)

Is it because the flow will keep a circulation?

Any comments would be helpful!

It's been almost a week and noone has replied to your post, so I'll just give my input even though I have a HOB... I think you're right, it helps circulate the water better, it's simply a matter of rectangular geometry. The benefit of having good circulation may outweigh the cost of its appearance.

Thanks tons for your input

I made another post about it and got the same replies.

I felt that the filters power would be broken up if it hit the front of the glass, as i wanted too keep fish which like less current. but this can be avoided by directing the current into the side of the tank.

or adding power heads...my brack tank that im starting this weekend uses a tetratech pf300 filter. I have the initial flow from coming straight out. The second is a tidal system and releases gushes of water every 10 seconds or so doing pretty much what you described above moving the water accross the tank. It is a noisy little bugger making the tides, but is pretty neat when watching it and hearing it, sounds like a water washing up close to land on a river or something.
