:D Hi I'm a 56 year old grandma and I started my tanks because I have a handicapped grandson who loves fish. Now it has gotten out of hand lol. I have a 85 gallon tank with 5 tinfoil barbs,6 tiger barbs,3 black widow tetras, 2 silver dollars, 2 bala sharks, and 3 tank cleaners. I also have a 25 gallon tank with 2 angels, 1 tank cleaner. then I have a 35 gallon tank with 2 angels, 1 danio,1 platy, and 2 tank cleaners. my husband has gotten into it now also and has fix the 85 gallon tank into a show piece. it has lights that rotate in two areas changing to different colors, and he is going to put a black light in also.

 Welcome.

A modern grandma, a smart woman. :flex:

I know some girls age from 18 to 25 and they don't know anything about comps.

:hi: to the forum.

Well, I've got bad news if others haven't already told you this.

Tinfoil barbs get really big, as do bala sharks.

Please find out what those "cleaners" are, and please don't treat them as such. they require more than the algae found in tanks, and they can't get to food fast enough to eat it before the others. If you don't treat them as poop scoopers, then good for you.

Danios should be kept in groups of 6+ to keep them happy and feeling safe.

Sorry for all of the bad news, but we're still here to help you out.

Welcome to the forum, purplephilly! I'd love to see some pictures of your tanks

:hi:

I have decided that tanks breed. Not sure if they are livebearers or egg layers, but they sure do multiply quickly! Seems like you have the same problem :D

 Sorry about using the term tank cleaners but I don't know how to spell the long word that starts with a p...lol...I feed them alge pellets and also I have shrimp pellets for them. I know the tinfoils get big but I have a really big tank.

Hello there! :hi: to the forum. My largest tank - the 45 gal - spends the school year in a special education classroom because it also is great for the children there. From autism to FAS, to downs and all points inbetween it seems that the fishtank provides for these kids something that they can enjoy. The children all share care and feeding "jobs" and it's been a real treat to watch them work with the fish. For the 9 familys that we served this year, 7 of them asked for help setting up their own tanks at home. Many of those tanks we stocked with the offspring from the classroom tank. :D So wonderful that you have one for your grandson. Hope you both enjoy it...
