Hi! I went to sign up today and found out I had made an account years ago but never posted 😅

I'm a nano fish and shrimp fanatic, with 11 tanks currently. I've always had fish but I've decided to improve and create strains instead of just casually breeding or raising them.

Specifically I'm working on my own guppy strain(s), improving 2 guppy strains, and then stabilizing my shrimp lines + crossbreeding specific strains to see what happens. The guppies I'm specifically working on lifespan in addition to appearance

Other fish I have that I'm breeding for better health but not as intense as the guppies, are my celestial pearl danios, pygmy and gold laser corydora, and my gertrude's blue eyes

Welcome. Your work sounds fascinating. What is your protocol for selecting for longevity?

Hi and welcome to our forum... :hi:
What kind of own guppy strains have you bred? Just being curious as being a livebearer passionate myself...

Only selecting the next generation from parents that are at least 8 months old, but until then allowing them to freely breed; I just remove and sell the young. As well as culling guppies the moment they have any sort of sickness, instead of trying to medicate them. That way, any weaker guppies are removed from the gene pool. I'll eventually only take the next generation from year old parents if I see a noticable increase in ages

I haven't created my own yet, but I've been working with dumbo redtails, full golds, and king tigers. I'll be buying some black eye koi soon! The dumbos sparked my interest in breeding actual strains and possibly getting into showing guppies sometime, until last year I just casually had tanks and didn't focus on breeding. I used to raise livestock for showing; showing fish sounds exciting 😁 and I've always been fascinated with genetics

We need some pics of your 11 tanks :)
Here's 7 of them! The other three are spread throughout the house. The 75 is just plants for now, it's too new and I want it to grow in before I add anything

So, you're infected with the multiple tank syndrome as well... ;)

I myself do set up my own guppy lines besides keeping existing guppy strains.

Oh absolutely. I actually don't have anywhere else I can put tanks; old house with not many outlets 😫 if I can find space I totally will squeeze more in

I've seen your website! That's been one of the sites I keep going back to while planning what to cross. You have made some awesome guppies.

Thank you for the compliment...
