Hi everyone thought i'd say hello to everyone and tell you a bit about my fish "theres lots of em too" lol

firstly i have 16 tanks in total (fish house in the making as we speak) ranging from 24x18x12 to the biggy a 72x24x24 all tanks at present reside in my 2 bedroom house  :0

Fish range from bread n butter stuff like Guppies and Swords to the more oddball types like my 2 Tyretrack Eels and a Fire Eel, Elephant Noses, Armoured Shrimps and various catfish the biggest of which is my prized Red Tail Catfish "Oscar" who is currently about 2 feet in length  :0

Hope this gives you some idea as to the posts to expect from me  ;)

Hi pete,
Welcome to the board. Anything you need to know we should have an idea on how to give you the right advice. I'm just not sure about the shrimp, though I think someone in here has all the info.
I was going to post a witty remark about shrimp and a good recipe but I didn't want to upset anyone ;)

Huummm RT Catfish, one of the fish I'd love to keep, just not go the room just now :)
Anyway hi pete, hope you'll join us often :)

Hi Pete, Welcome to the board. I'm also pretty new here and think it's a very friendly site. :D Mac.

well well 5 replies already i am doing well lol

just a quick update.......i have just been out and purchased some more fish including a Tiger Shovelnose Catfish "kitten" lol
he is about 2 inche long but ive heard that they are quite fast growing so i'll keep u posted on his progress  :D

i also thought i'd add that although alot of ppl think that large catfish should not be kept by the aquarist i believe that if you have a large enough tank and the time and dedication to put into keeping one that it should not be a problem............what i do disagree with is the pet shops that sell these fish as "kittens" and do not tell the general fish keeper just what they are letting themselves in for, my red tail grew from 2 inches to 2 feet in about 18 mths :0  also there is and will always be the attraction of ppl wanting to own these fish but not knowing just how to take care of such a large and demanding fish.........its not just the cost of buying one its the cost of supplying a decent sized tank and filters and it grows

to give you all some idea of what to expect if you fancy trying your hand at large catfish keeping heres what it cost me to set up my 72x24x24 tank for oscar my red tail cat......

tank....clearseal 72x24x24........£220.00
2x large external filters............£350.00
fluidized bed sand filter............£100.00
powerhead to run sand filter.....£30.00
2x 300watt heater stats..........£60.00

so as you can see it soon adds up so dont under take owning these fish lightly

but at the same time if your willing to provide for one go right ahead and enjoy ur new friend lol

oh and as for the shrimp reciepe....................
how could i possibly think of cooking my little cleaners :0

well!

firstly take a sharp knife and some boiling water.........

lol :p

as if lol aaanyways see you all soon and it nice to join such a friendly forum
