hi, setting up a new tank-plants

i got some plants from an outdoor pond, and wondering how to clean them for a new tank. i put them in tap water and a little soap, and slowly switching to clean water. how do i clean them to get rid of viruses/bacteria and bad things? thanks!

I would not wash them in soap. I would use a bleach dip instead. https://buceplant.com/blogs/news/how-to-perform-a-bleach-dip-for-aquarium-plants Is one method, I'm sure you can find other directions and youtube videos as well

Edit: make sure you use pure bleach, not a bleach detergent! you want only 100% chlorine bleach with no additives
