Hey there,

I saw this fish swimming in a tank with Flowerhorn cichlids at the LFS today, the lady had nooo idea what it was it also had no name on the tank, she said she heard it would be aggressive and grow quite big but she also didn't really sound liek she knew anything about it so hopefully you guys can help me!

I've looked all day and can't find anything about it, it swims like a red tail shark sort of and seems like some sort of cyprinid, reminds me of a tinfoil barb in the way the scales shimmer but it has this nice blue shine to it and the fins are outlined in a deep black, it also has a big dorsal fin

Please ID this fish, i would love to buy it as I think it is beautiful and I haven't seen one before, I have a pic and video of it.

It swam similar to them but the dorsal fin is much bigger and it had a blue/silverish shine to its scales as well as the black outline around the fins, I don't know what it is but I love it and think it would look awesome in my tank, just worrying because I don't want to go buy something without knowing what it is and having it becoming enormous or eating my other fish haha.

Just did some research, pretty sure its a checkered barb!!!

Puntius oligolepis, checkerboard barb: they're schooling fish.

It's definately a Checker Barb. Bala Sharks don't have orange fins.
